TV SHOWS FEATURING ADOPTION AND FOSTERING

Before adopting and even to this day I am always on the look out for TV shows that talk about or feature adoption/fostering. So much so that I push them on my friends and family to watch too! I love how some shows (if done well) can give our support network an insight of how we live on a day to day basis.

In this post you will find a breakdown of every TV show I could find that discusses or features adoption or fostering in some way. I do not claim to of watched every single one (yet) so I cannot give my opinion on all of them. I would love to hear comments about these shows if you have watched them. I will also do my very best to let you know where you can find them too.

1. TRYING

PLOT
All Jason and Nikki want is a baby, but it’s the one thing they just can’t have. So, they decide to adopt. With their dysfunctional friends, screwball family, and chaotic lives will the adoption panel think they’re ready to be parents?

WHERE CAN I WATCH TRYING?
Trying is currently available to stream on Apple TV only. If you don’t have an Apple TV account you can start a free 7 day trial. You could easily binge watch Season 1 and 2 in 7 days.

MY REVIEW
Oh my goodness where do I start? I love love love this series, it could literally be my life! It has an amazing mix of funny vs. sadness. Not everything is 100% correct and some of it could even scare you off of adoption. The approval panel was quite ridiculous! But the storyline is beautiful.. I cannot wait for season 3.

RATING: 10/10

2. THE FOSTERS

PLOT
Stef Foster and Lena Adams, have a family of adopted, biological, and foster children. Mariana and Jesus are adopted 15-year-old twins and Brandon is Stef’s 16-year-old biological son from a previous marriage. Everything is going fine in the house until Callie and Jude arrive. In this series, the Fosters will deal with many different issue like break-ups, romances, and important life lessons.

WHERE CAN I WATCH THE FOSTERS?
The Fosters is currently available to stream on Disney Plus.

MY REVIEW
I was addicted to this show after it was recommended by a friend. It is based in America so the fostering/adoption system is quite different to ours. But the storyline regarding biological families etc is all very real. If you love it as much as I did, there is a current spin off show called Good Trouble which is also available on Disney Plus and Iplayer.

RATING: 8/10

3. THIS IS US

PLOT
Rebecca Pearson once had a difficult pregnancy with triplets. The resulting births occurred on the same day as her husband Jack Pearson’s thirty-sixth birthday. The lives of Rebecca, Jack and their three offspring – Kevin, Kate and adopted Randall – are presented at different points in time. Separate stories concerning Kevin, Kate and Randall are also presented in their adult years, each who has his or her own baggage resulting from that upbringing: Kevin who was generally the neglected one because he had no outward issues; Kate who has always had weight issues; Randall, the gifted one, being the visible outsider and being the “non-K” child.

WHERE CAN I WATCH THIS IS US?
Currently This is us can be watched on Disney Plus and Amazon Prime.

MY REVIEW
This is us, one of the most heartwarming beautiful programmes on TV. It doesn’t deal with adoption in the mainstream sense. A couple adopts a baby who was left at a forestation. They didn’t need to go to prep group.. the hospital basically told the couple to take the baby home! But the need for this child to know his biological family is real and it’s very eye opening.

RATING: 9/10

4. MODERN FAMILY

WHERE CAN I WATCH MODERN FAMILY?
Currently Modern Family is available on Disney Plus and Amazon Prime.

MY REVIEW
I have not had the chance to watch Modern Family yet but it is definitely on my list of things to watch.
